03/13/17

Good Evening, The markets finished slightly in the green today. For the most part they were fairly sedate as they wait for the Fed rate decision on Wednesday. My thought it that a rate increase is already priced into stocks but will still have a negative effect on bonds. That’s pretty well it in a nutshell. There was some nice action in individual stocks. However, when taken as a whole (and that’s pretty much what we do in thrift) the earlier description hits the nail right on the head.

Let me change the subject slightly. Recently, I have received several messages asking for various types of guidance. As those of you know that send the messages, I always give you the best answer I can in a short message which often leaves me feeling like I needed to do more. So I talked it over with a friend of mine who is an Christian advisor with a reputable firm and deals almost exclusively with government employees and retirees this weekend and he agreed to help. He told me and I agree that many folks need assistance in the planning of their retirements and with the management of their retirement accounts long before they are ready to retire. To make a long story short, he offered to advise anyone free of charge that is with our group. That said, anyone who is interested in taking him up on the offer can contact me at my E mail address which is [email protected] or send me a message on our Facebook page. When I get a message asking for assistance I will get you in touch with him. I know what your probably thinking. He’s going to try to sell you something. Let me emphatically state that’s not the case. He is a successful broker and is doing this as a ministry. Of course, he does have services available if and when you ever need them.  I know this because that is where I have most of my funds invested on the street. How can he help you??? Trying to decide between a Roth or a Traditional IRA? Trying to decide how much to contribute to thrift? Trying to select the investment(s) within Thrift that is/are best for you as related to your timeframe? Getting close to retirement and thinking about rolling your money out of TSP? Thinking of taking a loan from your TSP and aren’t sure how it will effect your retirement? These and many more are the type of things that he can help you with. Please, if you need a little guidance take advantage of this!

The trading today left us with the following results: Our TSP allotment added +0.28%. For comparison, the Dow dropped -0.10%, the Nasdaq gained +0.24%, and the S&P was up +0.04%.

Good Morning, Another day another challenge. This market is anything other than boring and I say that not necessarily in a good way! When it comes to the market I think boring is good. That means less volatility and that means less stress. Nonetheless, we have what we have and we must deal with it.…

Good Morning, Our charts told us we were at the bottom and the fundamentals agreed. The opportunity was so compelling that we probably jumped back in a few weeks to early, but we wanted to make darn sure we were positioned for the run that would surely come. The market dipped and many chicken little…

Good Morning, Inevitably, we will have a down day and today is it. Believe it or not the S&P 500 has gone up the past nine sessions and it’s been a long time since it’s done that. So a down day today is not so bad. The recent run has pretty much put things back…
