Good Evening, The killer T’s got us again today. This time it was tariffs as the US threatened to impose a new round of tariffs on China and of course China threatened to retaliate. Specifically, the US said that it is prepared to enact tariffs on an additional 200 Billion worth of Chinese goods. This upped the ante substantially and put the market in a negative mood all day. I managed to make a little money the street but that was only through good stock picking. If you were invested in a major index or fund then you felt a little pain. Overall, I’d have to say that I’m still not overly concerned. The Chinese ultimately have the most to lose in this deal. So I think that an agreement will eventually be reached and when it is it will be an economic improvement for the United States. We’re just going to have to go ride out some rough seas before we get there. I wish I could tell you exactly how long this will last but there is really no way to know. Our goal if possible is to stay in the market until this agreement is reached. Earnings season starts in earnest on Friday with several big banks reporting. While earnings are expected to be good, investors main focus will be on the guidance given during reports. That guidance will determine the tone of the market and ultimately whether or not we will be able to remain in equities.

Good Afternoon, We talked last week about Jerome Powell’s speech at Jackson Hole Wyoming being a possible inflection point for the market and that’s exactly what it ended up being. The Fed chairman gave a somewhat dovish address in which he noted that  “the baseline outlook and the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting…
