07/31/17

Good Evening, The Dow set another record today while the Nasdaq and S&P 500 fell back. Again, the Dow failed to tell the story. Overall the current market just doesn’t have any energy. Only four of the 11 major S&P sectors were up. Breadth simply wasn’t good with the average stock making little or no progress or falling back. This market feels a little toppy but it has been like that for quite a while. For the most part I’d have to attribute this action to typical summer trading. That is to say it has no energy with a slightly negative bias. Don’t expect things to improve until after September. That of course is providing that we don’t hit any land mines such as a conflict with North Korea or tax reform failure in DC. As terrible as it may sound I consider the latter case just as damaging to the market as the first!

Anyway, here’s are the results for the day. Our TSP allotment gained +0.21%. For comparison, the Dow added +0.28%, the Nasdaq lost -0.42%, and the S&P 500 finished in the red at -0.07%.

The days action left us with the following signals: C-Buy, S-Neutral, I-Buy, F-Buy. We are currently invested at 100/I. Our allotment is now +11.90% on the year not including the days results. Here are the latest posted results:

Good Afternoon, We talked last week about Jerome Powell’s speech at Jackson Hole Wyoming being a possible inflection point for the market and that’s exactly what it ended up being. The Fed chairman gave a somewhat dovish address in which he noted that  “the baseline outlook and the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting…
