08/03/18

Good Evening, The Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq were all in the green but today was one of those days when the major indices did a poor job of portraying the true nature of the market. Volume and breadth were both terrible. Breadth today was just 3775 gainers to 3270 decliners and Volume on U.S. exchanges was 5.96 billion shares, compared with the 6.29 billion-share average over the last 20 trading days. Small caps were again lagging as well. I’m not really sure what the reason for that was but I can’t see it continuing with the trade war escalating. As you can see there were almost as many losers as there was gainers. There are many many small cap stocks and breadth is never good when they don’t perform well. The volume was poor as August is the peak vacation month for investors. This is partially a function of school starting soon and partially a function of August historically being a poor month to trade. August is the very definition of “Dog days of summer”……..

The days trading left us with the following results: Our TSP allotment was off -0.20%. For comparison, the Dow added +0.54%, the Nasdaq +0.12%, and the S&P 500 +0.46%. One day it’s large caps and the next day it’s small caps. Which one does well depends on what trade news is released on that particular day……

The days action left us with the following signals: C-Buy, S-Neutral, I-Neutral, F-Sell. We are currently invested at 100/S. Our allocation is now +7.85% for the year. Here are the latest posted results:

Good Morning, Our charts told us we were at the bottom and the fundamentals agreed. The opportunity was so compelling that we probably jumped back in a few weeks to early, but we wanted to make darn sure we were positioned for the run that would surely come. The market dipped and many chicken little…

Good Morning, Inevitably, we will have a down day and today is it. Believe it or not the S&P 500 has gone up the past nine sessions and it’s been a long time since it’s done that. So a down day today is not so bad. The recent run has pretty much put things back…

Good Afternoon, This was a Fed Driven market. It was all about when the Fed would be reducing interest rates based on inflation and that’s still the case to a certain degree, but in all actuality everything is waiting on the outcome of the tariff situation. So given that fact I’m going to say that…
