08/14/17

Good Evening, The market shrugged off the North Korean crisis (for now) with the S&P 500 posting it;s biggest one day gain since April. This weekends unfortunate news from Virginia appeared to have little effect. I guess domestic issues don’t carry as much weight as Thermonuclear War….I sure don’t mean to take away from the seriousness of the incident in Charlotte. The news is just all bad right now. We need to pray for our nation. Somehow this wickedness must stop.

So was today a dead cat bounce or is it the beginning of another V Shaped recovery? Until I see the pattern of dip buying come to an end I’d have to bet on the latter. At the very least barring no land mines I would expect the market to trade sideways. Also don’t forget, it is the slow season for stocks. So we shouldn’t be expecting any big moves one way or the other.

The days trading left us with the following results: Our TSP allotment gained +0.73%. For comparison, the Dow was up +0.62%, the Nasdaq +1.34%, and the S&P 500 +1.00%. All in all not a bad day. Thank God for that.

The days action left us with the following signals: C-Neutral, S-Neutral, I-Neutral, F-Buy. We are currently invested at 100/I. Our allocation is now +11.20% on the year not including the days results. Here are the latest posted results:

Tomorrow should tell the story. We will see if the recovery continues or the market resumes it’s slide. News was just released that the secretary of defense gave North Korea another warning and also that it appears we are on the verge of a trade war with China. It’s times like these that I must remind myself that God is on the throne. In addition, I correspond with a Pastor in Kenya. He tells me that they just finished an election there and the opposition has challenged the results. As a result there is ongoing blood shed throughout the country on a large scale that is not being reported on the news. This world is a mess and only Jesus can fix it! We are fortunate that the market is doing as well as it it doing. We must pray fervently for our Nation as well as for the world. The purpose of this blog is to help you invest your retirement accounts not to discuss world events. However, when world events have the propensity to destabilize the market we have no choice but to acknowledge them. Have a nice evening and we’ll do it again tomorrow.
God bless, Scott 8-)

Good Morning, The train left the station after Fridays jobs report. That may have well been the bottom of the current dip. It is now highly likely that the Fed will reduce rates on Sept 17th. More on that later. Right now lets focus on our trains next stop which will be Wednesdays Producer Price…

Good Afternoon, Happy Labor Day! I hope this note finds you enjoying some fine cuisine fresh off the grill! Well here we are starting a new month. The dreaded month of September. Good Afternoon, We talked last week about Jerome Powell’s speech at Jackson Hole Wyoming being a possible inflection point for the market and that’s exactly what it ended up being. The Fed chairman gave a somewhat dovish address in which he noted that  “the baseline outlook and the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting…
